Pasta with Tomato Sauce~
A great introduction to pasta for kids – loads of fun to eat, and a brilliant base for adding all kinds of other fresh ingredients. Once you've made this a few times you can add other simple ingredients, such as baby spinach, chopped rocket leaves, or fresh or frozen peas, to your basic tomato sauce to completely transform it :) :)
Ingredients for pasta with tomato sauce:
- 1 tablespoon of olive oil,
- 1 piece of brown onion; chopped,
- 2 pieces of garlic cloves; crushed,
- 1 x 800 g of can diced tomatoes,
- 1 tablespoon of tomato paste,
- ½ teaspoon of caster sugar,
- salt & freshly ground black pepper according to need,
- 400 g of dried penne pasta.
Instructions for pasta with tomato sauce:
- At first heat the oil in a large frying pan over medium heat. Add the onion and cook, uncovered, stirring often, for 3 minutes or until it softens slightly. Add the garlic and cook, stirring, for 1 minute or until aromatic.
- Stir in the tomatoes and tomato paste. Increase heat to high and bring to the boil. Reduce heat to medium and simmer, uncovered, stirring often, for 6-7 minutes or until the sauce reduces and thickens slightly.
- Stir in the sugar. Taste and season with salt and pepper. Meanwhile, cook the pasta in a large saucepan of salted boiling water following packet directions. Drain and return to the pan.
- Lastly add the sauce to the pasta and toss some boiled beans & creamy mozzarella cheese for garnish.
- Serve immediately and enjoy pasta with simple tomato sauce :) :)
